WATCH LIVE: SpaceX to Launch Falcon 9 Rocket #MarsRocket @9:17am EST delayed

SpaceX will debut an upgraded payload fairing for the Falcon 9 rocket when they return to action Wednesday with the launch of Spain’s Paz satellite from Vandenberg Air Force Base. The launch, which will also carry the first demonstration satellites for SpaceX’s own satellite internet constellation, is targeting an instantaneous launch opportunity at 06:17 Pacific Time (14:17 UTC). Liftoff window begins at 9:17 a.m. ET. โ–ฐ Get Live Alerts: (Rocket Launches & Webcasts)
https://goo.gl/APoYMC On Wednesday morning, Paz mission preparing for liftoff, Paz is a radar imaging satellite which will be operated by Spanish company Hisdesat. The spacecraft will provide day and night, all-weather imaging capabilities for Hisdesat’s customer, Spain’s Ministry of Defence. The launch of Paz had previously been scheduled to take place last Sunday. However, SpaceX announced a delay on Saturday to the next available date: Wednesday. In announcing this delay, SpaceX confirmed that the rocket would fly with an upgraded payload
fairing and that the reason for the delay was to give additional time for checkouts on this part of the vehicle. The upgrade is understood – although unconfirmed by SpaceX – to be Fairing Version 2 – or “Fairing 2.0” – a new version of the protective shroud expected to improve its survivability for post-launch recovery attempts, and to be reusable on future missions.
Paz will be joined aboard Falcon 9 by MicroSat-2a and 2b, a pair of 400-kilogram (880 lb) demonstration satellites for SpaceX’s planned Starlink internet constellation. The satellites are the first prototypes in a fleet which may consist of up to 12,000 spacecraft. SpaceX first announced Starlink in early 2015. The project will use satellites in place of traditional infrastructure to help provide high-speed broadband internet access around the world. SpaceX’s filings with the US Federal Communications Commission indicate that the constellation will be used for fixed satellite services (FSS), such as backhaul for transmitting data around the globe. The space-based architecture could be used to help bring faster internet access to more remote regions of the planet in the future. By the courtesy of SpaceX live Feed

๐Ÿ‡ธ๐Ÿ‡ฉ Is Sudan facing economic collapse? | The Stream

It was jubilation on the streets of Khartoum on Sunday after the release of activists and protesters who were arrested and imprisoned last month during protests against rising food prices in Sudan. Reuters news agency reported that about 40 prisoners were released, but some prominent opposition leaders were still being held. Called the “bread protests”, anti-austerity demonstrations began in January after the government of President Omar al-Bashir announced the 2018 budget and further austerity measures. One Sudanese economist called the budget a “siege on the citizens.” The prices of basic household staples, especially flour, have steadily been rising. Several subsidies, such as for wheat and pharmaceuticals have been eliminated by the government, and the currency has been devalued in an effort to improve the local economy. Officially 1 US dollar is equal to $18 Sudanese pounds, but unofficially on the black market, the dollar is estimated to be selling for more than double that price. The Bashir government has been investing in military as it continues fighting on several fronts – Darfur, South Kordofan and the Blue Nile states. The government has formed a committee to examine the impact of the economic policies, and the prime minister has reassured the flow of basic commodities, according to the government. In October 2017, the US lifted sanctions first imposed on the country 20 years earlier. While many blame the sanctions for the current state of the economy, it has faltered since South Sudan seceded in 2011, taking with it 75 percent of the country’s oil reserves. Street protests have been mostly quelled and there has been a virtual media blackout. Sudan's ruling National Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said peaceful demonstrations against price hikes were a constitutional right and that they did not bother the party. Kabashour Koko acknowledged that there was an economic crisis hurting the country's citizens, saying "there are arrangements, procedures and some revisions." On this episode of The Stream, we’ll discuss the worsening economic situation in Sudan, and ask in what direction the country is headed. Join the conversation:
