Jury finds Raymond Cormier not guilty of killing Tina Fontaine

Raymond Cormier, the man accused of second-degree murder in the death of Tina Fontaine, has been found not guilty by the jury. Shortly after the verdict came down, Indigenous leaders in Manitoba criticized the systems they say failed the 15-year-old girl. Fontaine's body was found in Winnipeg's Red River, wrapped in a duvet cover and weighted down with rocks in August 2014. Cormier was charged in her death in 2015. Trudeau doing damage control on India trip

Justin Trudeau has been in damage control mode on his India trip following the revelation that a man convicted of attempting to kill a politician was invited to an event with the Canadian prime minister. Jaspal Atwal, a former member of a Sikh extremist group who was convicted in 1986 for the attempted assassination of an Indian politician, was also photographed with Sophie Gregoire-Trudeau. It's just the latest bit of controversy on a trip that's already been heavily criticized for a lack of purpose by pundits and Trudeau's opponents. Gun ban a non-starter for pro-gun lobby

Any sort of gun ban is a non-starter for the National Rifle Association, but that doesn't mean some of its members don't believe reforms should be made – beginning with a pitch from the NRA president for more heavily secured schools. U.S. President Donald Trump is considering a wide range of reforms, including increasing the age for purchasing assault rifles, and stepped-up background checks.
