The non-violent arrest of the Toronto van attack suspect is being praised by many. Video taken by witnesses shows the suspect apparently pulling a gun when confronted by a lone police officer. The officer is seen to get the suspect to stand down, drop what he's holding, and make the arrest without incident. Mall massacre plotter gets life sentence



An American woman who plotted a mall massacre in Canada has been sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole for 10 years. Lindsay Souvannarath made the plan with James Gamble, a Nova Scotia man, in 2015. Two days before the attack, police got a Crime Stoppers tip. Souvannarath was intercepted by the Canada Border Services Agency and arrested by police at Halifax Airport. North Korea suspends nuclear tests, plans to close nuclear test site



Kim Jong-un says North Korea has suspended its nuclear and long-range missile tests, and also announced plans to close its nuclear test site altogether. The move comes just ahead of planned meetings between Kim Jong-un and leaders of South Korea and the United States. However, there is no word on what will happen to the nuclear weapons and missiles that have already been developed. Facebook Canada executive gets grilled by parliamentary committee



It was Facebook Canada's head of public policy Kevin Chan's turn to get grilled by a parliamentary committee — and he didn't get a much warmer welcome in Ottawa, than Mark Zuckerberg did in Washington. MPs took Chan and other executives to task over the protection of Canadians' private information, suggesting Facebook needs regulation. For its part, Facebook says it is open to regulation and that it has improved its privacy policies. Queen honours Canadian for making prosthetics for refugees



Queen Elizabeth honoured a young Canadian for her work in making prosthetics for refugees. Midia Shikh Hassan, a Syrian-Canadian, was given the Queen's Young Leader Award in London. She's worked to develop 3D-printed prosthetic limbs for refugees in camps. The prosthetics only cost $20 to produce, much less than previous alternatives. Two doctors lose licences, leaving 1,200 patients without physicians



A pair of married doctors from South Africa have left their patients in Chilliwack, B.C.. 'high and dry' without a physician. Doctors Sean and Rosemarie Cambridge both failed their Canadian qualifying exams multiple times over the past six years before B.C. cancelled their registration. The Cambridges were originally placed in Chilliwack because the town has a severe doctor shortage.
